Here's what we'll cover in this special 'social distanced' online edition:

COVID-19 Stimulus measures: The devil and opportunities in the detail

In the last few months we've seen some developments around the JobKeeper scheme, which might mean that clients who thought they missed out can actually qualify. We work through the detail so you can identify clients who could potentially access JobKeeper or the cash flow boost even though they have been knocked back by the ATO.

We also look at the latest tax developments, including changes to the immediate expensing rules for depreciating assets, the JobMaker scheme and how to determine whether COVID-related grants to business clients are tax-free.

SMSFs & Business Real Property

Business Real Property is one of the most common queries we get on the help desk. It’s one of those concepts that appears simple, but the devil is in the details. Quite often, assets that you would assume meet the definition do not and properties that you never thought of may be considered business real property.

In this session, we cover when a property is considered wholly and exclusively used in one or more business, the impact of non-business use on the test, and when the exception for real property used in primary production will apply.

We also discuss when the test is relevant, plus the implications of not meeting the criteria. Common scenarios will highlight issues that can occur and we'll give you tips to help navigate these issues for your clients.

FBT Essentials - COVID and ATO Risk Areas

With the end of the FBT year not far away, now is the time to ensure you and your team are across the key FBT issues that clients are likely to be facing.

In this essential session we cover the FBT issues that are receiving ATO attention and how to minimise risks for clients.

We also look at recent guidance from the ATO on benefits that employers might not usually provide, but which have become more common over the last year as a result of COVID. We cover practical issues relating to employee contributions, the proposed FBT exemption for retraining and reskilling and an ‘essential checklist’ for FBT year-end planning.
