Tax Treatment of Software Webinar

The practical issues when managing tax for software distributors, developers, and customers

The new ATO guidance on activities involving software
Treating software as trading stock or a depreciating asset and the tax impact
Common practical issues and problem areas

The way that we deal with software has changed significantly over the years and the ATO is finally catching up, issuing updated guidance on how the tax system applies to software distributors, developers, and customers.

The Tax Treatment of Software Webinar is an essential update on the key issues that need to be considered by clients who are developing apps, distributing software, acquiring software, or paying licence fees to access software. We also look at some of the complex issues that arise when clients have cross border dealings in connection with software.

We work through the most common tax issues that clients face when dealing with software and services relating to software. We also look at how to determine whether software should be dealt with under the trading stock rules or depreciation rules, including whether clients can access up-front deductions for costs relating to the development or acquisition of software.
