Preparing for the 2026 SMSF Audit
Wednesday, 2 September 2026
Continue the SMSF 2026 compliance season series with a practical session focused on preparing for the annual SMSF audit. As the saying goes, “measure twice, cut once” — identifying audit hurdles before a fund goes to audit reduces delays, avoids unnecessary queries and lessens the risk of qualifications that may result in reported contraventions.
Gansen Pappiah, Director at National Audits Group, joins Mark Ellem, Head of SMSF Education at Accurium, to run through practical pre‑audit checks accountants and administrators should complete. Gansen will share his firm’s experience of the most common breaches and misunderstandings uncovered during audits, and will explain how to evidence compliance and streamline file readiness to minimise auditor queries. Expect real‑world examples and actionable steps you can apply straight away.

Div 296 – you’re in it now!
Wednesday, 22 July 2026
We’re now in year one of Division 296 and this timely webinar focuses squarely on what the first year means in practice for trustees, advisers and administrators. The session concentrates on the transitional rules and the practical steps firms must take during the 2026–27 year to manage compliance risk, client conversations and back‑office implementation.
Attendees will be taken through illustrative scenarios and worked examples that highlight how transitional arrangements operate in typical client circumstances, and what advisers should flag to SMSF trustees and Div 296 in-scope members.
With the emphasis on readiness and compliance assurance, this webinar will enable participants to confidently apply transitional rules while monitoring for further administrative guidance or ATO clarifications.

Wednesdays, 19 & 26 August 2026
This 2-part webinar series will delve into the latest regulatory updates, compliance strategies, and best practices to equip you for the 2025-26 SMSF Annual Return compliance and tax season.
We will take stock of rule changes for SMSFs that apply to the 2025-26 financial and what implications they may have on how you prepare the annual financial statements and SMSF Annual Return. We’ll also discuss what we believe to be the ATO’s compliance risk areas of concern and focus.
A technical and practical series to help you with preparing the 2026 annual financial statements and SMSF Annual Return.

SMSFs Investing via Interposed Entities
Wednesday, 16 September 2026
This webinar examines the compliance framework and practical considerations when SMSFs invest via interposed entities. It reviews the superannuation obligations that commonly arise, including arm’s‑length dealings, the sole‑purpose test, in‑house asset limits (and the special considerations where the interposed entity is un‑geared), together with the income tax consequences, with particular focus on non‑arm’s‑length income (NALI).
The session translates these legal and tax principles into practical checkpoints advisers and trustees can apply when assessing and documenting such investments.
Alongside the technical rules, the webinar considers the commercial and operational risks that can flow from investing through an interposed vehicle. For example, creditor exposure, recovery challenges and the ripple effects if an underlying activity (such as a property development) fails.
